(Erich is my 13 year old. He is extremely wise. He is charming too and sweet and a great communicator (ok, ok, chatterbox
- ask Helge – he can tell you all about it!!
If you know me well enough you will also know that Erich is (and has been) my most faithful prayer-partner for the better part of his existence. He has grown from jabbering little prayer rhymes to understanding the power of prayer – of worship and thankfulness and asking – of expectation and of faith – and above all he understands that our agreeing in prayer has often brought us answers and blessings beyond expectation. He understands my take on coincidence – and will often when things seem accidental or coincidental give me the wink and say: “coincidence – is when God stays anonymous, right Mommy??”.
He explains the Afrikaans translation of coincidental like this: “Toevallig” – “toe val lig” (roughly translated it means: “then falls light”) – verstáán Mamma??”
And then he goes into a long explanation of how even this coincidence of wordplay is yet again, no coincidence at all…
He has shared such a vast amount of insight into faith, reasoning through the eyes of a child – it’s his easy approach to blessed assurance that humbles me and often strengthens my conviction much more than any preacher’s sermon ever could.
So here goes : Erich Explains 1 :

Mommy, where was Adam when the snake
persuaded Eve which fruit to take?
Have you ever wondered why
she believed that wicked lie
and don’t you think if Adam had
listened to what God had said
he’d have guarded Paradise
and kept her under watchful eyes?!
Mom, d’you think if Adam spent his day
With Eve instead of his own merry way
They might have been a unity
Against the snake and the banned tree?
And do you think that that is why
So many fall when sin walks by
With promises and selfish lies
Which twist the truth and blind the eyes.
So, maybe he was on a break
But that’s exactly when a snake
Will take advantage in a flash
And burn your world to dust and ash.
Mom, if folks attend to what is theirs
They won’t be caught so unawares
Or taken by startling surprise
If they protect their Paradise!
